SARAH MAY EILERTSON

Sarah May Eilertson graduated from Southern Oregon University, in Ashland Oregon, with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Communications in 2011. She obtained a certificate in Human Resource Management and Mediation. She furthered her education with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling in December of 2013 at Southern Oregon University. Sarah has worked in the field for the last 12 years where she gained expertise in working with those that have experienced trauma. She has been trained in various trauma informed therapies including: Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). She currently holds a the following certifications: Certified EMDR Therapist (2024) and Nationally Certified Counselor (2013).

Sarah believes that providers can only take those they work with as far as they have gone both professionally and personally. For this reason, she is always growing and learning new things which she can bring back to the mental health field. Mental health is a personal journey where trust, empowerment, and intentional guidance can lead to transformation with collaboration from all sides.

Along with her experience in working in the mental health field, she is a Supervisor (LPC only) with the LPC Board of Oregon where she works closely with Registered Associates and student interns on their journey in becoming mental health providers. Sarah has always been passionate about serving the mental health field and she is dedicated to growing the knowledge/expertise for other providers who are excited about the trauma field. Throughout Sarah’s years of working with those that have experienced trauma, she is always in awe to see the strength and resiliency that comes from someone who desires to rise above the ashes.

SARAH'S PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

In 2010, Sarah volunteered for a year at the crisis hotline with Community Works in Jackson County where she assisted individuals with manners surrounding general crisis, domestic violence, and sexual assault. During this time, she answered the phones for crisis calls and provided resources to individuals in need. She learned the importance of resources and how to effectively manage crisis situations. During her graduate work, she spent 6 months with the Women's Crisis Support Team as a counseling intern where she saw clients for individual counseling services, worked at the shelter, ran overnight shifts with the crisis helpline, and facilitated a psychoeducational group for staff surrounding burnout and vicarious trauma. She has been working as a counselor serving individuals with various concerns since 2014 in Grants Pass and 2016 in Medford. As the Clinical Director for Rising Phoenix Counseling Services, LLC, she oversees all cases seen within Rising Phoenix Counseling Services, LLC, manages any complaints, and provides training for her staff to ensure quality services for all clients. She has been working with the Family Connection since 2015 as a guest speaker at their yearly parenting training and most recently as the keynote speaker in October 2017. She currently supervises all providers at Rising Phoenix Counseling Services, LLC to help provide the best care possible for those that we serve.
