ALMYRA PERRY, LPC, NCC
Almyra Perry graduated from Southern Oregon University, a CACREP accredited program in Ashland, Oregon with a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2017. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology there as well in 2015. She obtained her National Certified Counseling Certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor in June of 2020. She has obtained experience as a therapist for 5 years as an Adult Outpatient Therapist serving individuals and couples. She had obtained the bulk of her experience in a community mental health agency.
While gaining her education she was trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and continues to utilize this therapy in her practice today. During her service with the community mental health agency she obtained a year experience as a co-facilitator (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) DBT Skills Group and gained training and experience with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. She is very aware and utilizes Trauma Informed Treatment as the base of her practice. DBT is a skills based therapy which is focused on Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Communication. She is fully trained in EMDR and can also use the trauma based therapy for chronic pain. She has also been trained and gained experience as a co-facilitator for a year in Seeking Safety a group designed for those suffering from trauma and /or substance use.
Person Centered Therapy is at the core of her practice in that she believes we all deserve congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathetic understanding. Almyra’s primary focus of treatment is trauma and the different ways that can manifest and change our lives. She feels every person deserves a healthy state of well-being. In a quest for personal growth, relief from basic life stressors, trauma, or psychiatric issues she strives for empowerment in her clients through utilizing strength based approaches.
ALYMRA’S PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Almyra has a strong medical background having completed 9 years as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in the United States Air Force and later turning her focus to mental health in 2012. She has had the opportunity through a non-profit community mental health agency to continue her education gaining training in many areas such as Bowen Family Systems, ASIST training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), Differential Diagnosis and Motivational Interviewing. She has also obtained training from Community Works on Domestic Violence and The Power and Control Wheel of Abuse. She has also had the opportunity to acquire training through the STARS Behavioral Health Program. These include Addressing Suicidal Behavior in US Military, Military Culture and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. She has completed trainings for all three tiers. Almyra joined the Rising Phoenix Counseling Services team in October of 2020 and is excited to provide mental health therapy to adults in the Rogue Valley.
